For a tourist wishing to maximize the tourist experience in the Island, car hire is the best option. Local and international Car hire places can be found within the airport. For those already familiar with the island, other car hire companies are mostly located around Kountouriotou Street at Mitilini's harbor. Parking spaces at Lesvos international airport are available in the parking lot across from the passenger terminal. The airport has one small terminal that services both International and Domestic flights. Here, car hire desks can be found in the arrivals area of the terminal and include international car hire companies like Hertz, Europe car and Budget to name a few. Two gas stations are also located close by to the advantage of travelers using car hire services.
Other travelers prefer hiring locals to drive as they are well versed with the region and are quite familiar with the traffic rules. They might sometimes drive pretty fast but there is no cause for worry as the road network is in a generally good condition. Mountain roads are also not too challenging and visitors will find the ride quite enjoyable
Car hire is generally reasonable and is accompanied by full follow up and full time assistance from the 24hour service call centers. Compared to public transportation, car hire happens to be very reliable and tailor made to fit the needs of the user. This makes it the best option for tourists. Important to note is that the Lesvos International Airport is most often referred to as Mytilene International Airport and the latter is the popular of the two and therefore this should not be a confusing factor to new travelers visiting the Island.
