Anchorage city is located in the south central part of the Alaska State in the United States and happens to be the largest city in this state. The city is home to animals adapted to cold climates like grizzly bears, black bears, moose, wolves, foxes and birds like beavers which inhabit the local creeks. Anchorage International Airport is also the prime international air cargo gateway in the nation by weight and was ranked the fifth busiest airport in the world in 2010 after Hong Kong, Memphis, Shanghai and Seoul. The Airport was constructed as early as 1951 and was named Anchorage Airport and was later renamed Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport by the Alaska legislature in honor of U.S Senator Ted Stevens who had in the year 2000 being voted the Alaskan of the Century. Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport now stands in memory of this longest serving Republican senator in history who later died in a plane crash while heading to a private fishing lodge.
It covers four thousand five hundred acres and has three asphalt paved runways. There are two main terminals; the South terminal which is also the domestic terminal and the North terminal which is the international terminal. The car hire Centre is located across from the south terminal. From the north terminal, one would have to take one of the free shuttle buses servicing the airport to be transported there. There are eight car hire companies located at the car hire center and this includes Alamo, Avis, Budget and Dollar to name but a few.
There is long term and short term parking services available within the airport depending on the client’s requirement and parking space can be found at the domestic as well as the international terminals. Also present is the new Park, Ride and Fly lot which conveniently operates 24hours a day/7days a week. It is located across from the DOTPF central regional headquarters on international Airport road. The free airport shuttle services are readily available to and from this parking lot but on a demand or on call basis.
