Frankfurt Airport or Frankfurt am Main, as it is known locally is the busiest airport in Germany and a major hub for European flights. Frankfurt is known for its futuristic skyline and is situated on the River Main. Although, Frankfurt has many very modern buildings, it still has much history. You can see traditional buildings and museums in Romer Square and in Sachsenhausen the original 19th century streets and parks remain. In Romerburg or the old town, you can see 14th century buildings such as the Town hall and Dom Cathedral and there are pretty cafes and shops too. The Archaeologische Garten is where the ancient roman remains of the town can be discovered and nearby is the 12th century church of Nikolaikirche. There are over 30 museums in the Museumsufer district and you can see opera at Alte Oper, for more culture. If shopping is more your style, head for the Hauptwache. Get out of the city with your car hire in Frankfurt and visit the wealthy spa town of Wiesbader and the charming town of Heidelberg for its stunning castle. The city of Cologne with its amazing cathedral is also a short distance away.
