Menorca Airport is also known locally as Mahon Airport and is the main airport for visitors to the island of Menorca. Car Hire at Menorca Airport is highly recommended and a great opportunity to explore this pretty island. Mahon is just 4 km from the airport and mostly visited by holidaymakers from the UK and Germany.
Menorca Airport has just one terminal with the basic facilities you would need for any trip. There are information points if you have enquiries at the airport and a tourist information office so you can find out how to make the most of your stay in Menorca. There are 2 ATMs if you need to get extra Euros and a pharmacy for any last minute emergencies. If you get hungry there are 7 food outlets to pick from, including the traditional Dehesa Santa Maria and fast food at Burger King or try sandwiches and snacks at Pans and Company. If you forgot to buy gifts and souvenirs there are 9 shops, with everything from books and snacks to the latest designer fragrance and local Menorcan produce.
Menorca is the 2nd largest of the Balearic Islands and considered a smaller sister island. It has much charm and natural beauty and more glorious beaches than Ibiza and Mallorca combined. Just two worth visiting are Son Bou and Cala Bregonda. Mahon or Mao as it is known by the locals, is a small port town built on a beautiful cliff side. The town has 18th century Georgian buildings and pretty streets to explore. You can find out more about Mahon’s history at the Museo de Minorca. Stop at a cafe in Placa Alfons III and see the historic windmill. You can take a cruise trip from the harbour or visit the nearby 19th century La Mola Fortress for a little maritime history.
Discover more of Menorca with your car hire from Menorca Airport and really get to know the island. Head out to the small fishing village of Fornells and enjoy the excellent seafood restaurants whilst watching the sun set over this pretty bay. Drive up to Monte Toro, the highest point on the island and see panoramic views of the countryside and sea. For something a little different, visit the Xoriguer Gin Distillery to find out how local gin is produced and sample the delicious local speciality ‘Pomada’ which is a mix of gin and bitter lemon.
